Bartending seems like a pretty easy occupation. Even people who have never been to Bartending School or have other similar education jump into the bartending business thinking that bartending the same as any other business.

Indeed if you plan to hire people for absolutely everything including a manager who knows the secrets of bartending the whole venture can be quire simple or at least business-book simple. However this doesn’t make you the bartender but the investor.

How to Lower Your Liquor Liability

Whether you’re hosting a company party, wedding, neighborhood picnic, or any event where alcohol is served – remember – when an employee or guest drives away and causes an accident, the person who served the liquor is just as guilty as the driver behind the wheel. The surviving family members will sue for damages naming everyone associated with the event – the company or organization, the hosting facility, the caterer, etc.

The best way to lower your liquor liability is to not serve any. However, sometimes and most times, that is not an option. Here are some steps you can take to keep employees or attendees from overindulging.

Americas First Celebrity Bartender

The cocktail is practically an American institution. One of the very first Bartenders to popularise the cocktail was Jerry Thomas, Americas original "Celebrity Bartender". Thomas wrote what is widely considered as one of the first books to contain cocktail recipes, “The Bartenders Guide”.

When I first came across this little volume (last published in 1887) in a dusty old book shop I was blown away. Here at last was cocktail history laid bare! I bought it on the spot and literally sat up all night and read the book cover to cover. For anyone with even a flicker of interest in cocktails and drinks its an enthralling read. Jerry Thomas is to cocktail culture what Louis Armstrong is to Jazz!
